Rochon was born in Torrance (a suburb in Los Angeles), is the daughter of Zelma Staples. Her parents are Samuel Staples a graphic designer and businessman. Cerritos was her primary high school. She graduated in 1982. Rochon graduated with a diploma in broadcast journalism from California State University Dominguez Heights (CSUDH) in the year 1986. Her other minors include theatre, sociology as well as theatre. Rochon returned to CSUDH for commencement in 2016 as the keynote speakers.

Heather produces and hosts the series that explores travel on digital media called Drive Yourself Local. She explores America's small towns with a 1965 Ford Mustang. Heather has appeared on several TV and film series such as Nightingale and Epic Movie.

Ullerup was first seen first in Battlestar Galactica remake, the Sci Fi Channel's 2006 television show. The role she played was Julia Brynn. The character she played, Ashley Magnus, was written out of Sanctuary's first and second season. The reason for her departure was a source of debate between viewers, with a majority people wanting her back in future episodes, until the show was canceled in the year 2012. Ullerup appeared in Chesapeake Shores as Bree O'Brien. Ullerup portrayed Maggie Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact, the movie that chronicles the disaster of 2015. Ullerup was Dale Travers, a recurring character on Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered films from the year 2016 until today.
