Pom Klementieff

Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a French actress. She was trained at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris and has been featured in films such as Loup (2009), Sleepless Night (2011) and Hacker's Game (2015). She plays the Mantis character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Pom Klementieff was raised in Quebec City to a Korean father and a French-Russian mother. He worked as a consul for the French government. Eugene Klementieff was her grandfather. Pom was her name because it sounds like the Korean words "spring" and 'tiger" in Korean. Klementieff resided in Canada for a short time before her family was able to travel extensively due to her father's employment. They lived in Japan as well as the Ivory Coast, before settling in France. Klementieff's father, who died aged 5 of cancer was her mother. She also suffered from schizophrenia , and could not care for her kids. Klementieff was raised with her paternal uncle and aunt. Her uncle, whom she described as "like her second father" passed away on her 18th birthday, and her older brother committed suicide seven years after, this occasion being her birthday. Klementieff was a student at law school for a short time after the death of her uncle in order to please her aunt, but was not a fan of the career choice appealing. Also, she worked as a waitress in France and a salesperson. At the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris she started acting at the age of 19. After a few months of studies, she won a theater competition that awarded her classes for two years with some of the best teachers. The first role she had in professional acting was the French independent film Apres lui (2007), playing the stepdaughter to the main character played by Catherine Deneuve. Filming for her scenes was a three-day process. In one scene, Klementieff was pushing a person down a set of steps, and she fell. Gael Morel saved that scene for the final film. Loup (2009) was her first lead role in a film. It's an French movie about a group of Siberian mountain reindeer herders. Klementieff was filming in the middle of a camp located at a distance from the closest village. The camp was where temperatures plummeted to zero.
